Accommodation here is multi-share with 3 or 4 beds in each dormitory/room. Bedding is provided but you will need to bring a sleeping bag for additional warmth if travelling in the months Nov-April. You will need to bring your own bath towel. Bathroom facilities are unisex and shared. Each evening on return from our days of hiking, you will enjoy homemade dinners of local produce in the cozy salon. Settle in and enjoy the tranquility, fantastic views and clean mountain air of this magical region. In the afternoon we hike along the mountain slopes to find the shrine of Sidi Chamharouch (2,350m). This sacred place offers a fascinating glimpse into local life, as people from all over the region come with offerings and prayers for good health and well-being, perhaps even hoping to drive away a bad jinn (spirit) or two. Please note non-Muslims are not able to enter the shrine itself. We return to our gite for the evening. Overnight at Aremd.
Day 03 : Aremd – Tizi ‘N Tamatert
Tamatert is nature at its best. We spend the day trekking, our trail taking us through magnificent mountain landscapes. As with our other trekking excursions, You need to bring a small day pack to carry essential items for the day such as water, hat, sunscreen and fleece/jacket.We depart from Aremd and follow a goat path heading uphill. Crossing over the river we reach a high point at 2500m then descend through a forest to Tamatert village. From the village we follow the newly built road upwards to the pass of Tizi ‘n Tamatert (2300m). where you have views across Imlil and to Mt Toubkal. We descend via the road to Tamatert, and shortly afterwards we’ll cross underneath the walnut trees to the mule path that continues along the ridge back to Aremd for the night. Overnight at Aremd.
Day 04 : Tizi ‘N Tamatert – Tizi ‘N Muzik
Lace up those hiking boots for another day of exploring the High Atlas Mountains. Today we trek along mule paths on the mountains slopes to a pass on the opposite side of the valleys. We ascend on tracks with some scree to reach the Tizi ‘n M’zik pass (2,490m), where we are rewarded with superb views down to Imlil and the Mizane Valley, and up to the plateau of Tzikert. We’ll have our picnic at the top. We then descend via the village of Achain, where we may have the opportunity to take tea in a local village house, before returning to our gite in Aremd for the night. Overnight at Aremd.
Day 05 : Tizi ‘N Muzik – Aremd
Today we have the opportunity to get a real insight into mountain village life, by spending the day working with the local villagers. The village association will arrange for us to assist with any current projects or work programs, or spend the day with a local family. The projects will vary, depending on the season and the needs of the village. You might assist with some of the agricultural tasks, or perhaps help to construct new buildings or facilities for the village, there may be a project to help clean up the local trekking paths, or you can experience the life of a family by assisting with their daily chores. Should you prefer to do some more walking, there may be an opportunity to make a hike for about 3 hrs through the villages of the valley, depending on the availability of extra guides. In the late afternoon there is the opportunity to take a traditional steam bath in the village hammam (optional – at your own expense) before we enjoy our last night’s dinner at our gite. Overnight at Aremd.
Day 06 : Aremd – Marrakech
We complete our journey with one last short trek back to Imlil, before travelling back to Marrakech, where we have the afternoon and evening to explore this wonderful city – perhaps for some serious bargaining for souvenirs. Djemaa el Fna, the open-air market place around which the traditional life of Marrakech revolves, has always been an exciting place to visit. The name literally means ‘place of death’ as it was the place where the Sultans used to display the heads of their enemies. Now, with the food-stalls, snake-charmers, water-sellers, travelling musicians and acrobats, the square is a place of entertainment for both Moroccan and overseas visitors. The modern shopping centres and boulevards of the French-built new town are also only a short walk away. Please note that only certified local city guides are allowed to guide travellers in the medina, therefore your CEO cannot accompany you through the souks, but will be able to help you find a local guide if you wish. Day 02 : Casablanca – Meknes – Volubilis – Fez
After breakfast, proceed to start the day by exploring Casablanca’s most important site, the Hassan II Mosque, which houses 25,000 worshippers. Its minaret is the tallest religious structure in the world. Afterward, drive to the city of Meknes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built in the seventeenth century by the powerful sultan Moulay Ismail to rival the court of French contemporary Louis XIV. Your sightseeing continues to Volubilis, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to Morocco’s largest and most well-preserved Roman ruins. With its soaring arches and basilicas, Volubilis’ skyline is peppered with examples of Roman architecture — though its greatest treasures are the excellently preserved mosaic floors. At day’s end, arrive in Fez. Overnight at hotel.
Day 03 : Fez
After breakfast, spend the day today discovering Fez. Step back in time to the Middle Ages as you visit one of the most ancient and untouched city neighborhoods in the world, Fez el-Bali “Old Fez”, the cultural heart of Morocco. Take your pick from and meander in some 9,000 car-free narrow lanes, alleys and souks that comprise the labyrinth of the city’s old quarter, originally founded in the eighth century AD by Moulay Idriss I. Take in the sights and sounds of locals conducting their day to day business and merchants selling spices and goods. The imperial capital was a center of medieval learning and at its heart remains the Al Karaouine university, originally founded as a madrasa in 859. Pause at Nejjarine Square, with its beautiful fountain with elaborate mosaic tilework. Discover Fez el-Jedid “New Fez”, built by the Merinid Dynasty in the thirteenth century. Fez el-Jedid is home to the Mellah, the old Jewish quarter, which boasts traditional Jewish architecture of wrought iron–decorated windows and splendid carved wood balconies. Overnight at hotel.
Day 04 : Fez – Rabat
After breakfast, drive to Rabat, the capital of Morocco. After settling in to your hotel, set off to explore the city’s highlights, including its superbly preserved Moorish relics, such as the twelfth-century Hassan Tower, the incomplete minaret of a great mosque built by Yacoub el-Mansour. View the mausoleum of Mohamed V, founder of modern Morocco, and visit Oudaya Kasbah, built on a bluff overlooking the Atlantic. Note the kasbah’s gate, one of the most beautiful surviving ones in the Moorish world. Once inside, explore a delightful Andalusian-style garden, complete with a fountain and sweet-scented orange trees. Beyond the city walls are the remains of the ancient city of Sala. Overnight at hotel.
Day 05 : Rabat – Marrakech
After breakfast, proceed to Marrakech. Founded in 1062, Marrakech was once the capital of an empire that stretched from Toledo, Spain, to Senegal. Also known as the “Red City” or “Pink City” due to the distinctive hue of the local earth used in the construction of its many brick buildings, Marrakech is a city of labyrinthine alleyways, secluded palaces, museums, mosques and markets. Overnight at hotel.
Day 06 : Marrakech
After breakfast, spend the day discovering mysterious, glorious Marrakech, starting at its ancient medina, the old walled section of the city. Visits include the Saadian Tombs, displaying intricate stucco and Granada-style carvings; the Dar Si Said, one of the most beautiful palaces and the home to the Museum of Moroccan Arts and Crafts; and the Bahia Palace, the residence of the grand vizier Si Ahmed Ben Moussa. Stop at the twelfth-century Koutoubia Mosque, with a minaret considered the most perfect Islamic religious structure in North Africa. Afterward, stroll through the labyrinthine souks and the fabled Djemaa el-Fna square, with its fire-eaters, mimes, snake charmers and street musicians performing at every turn. Overnight at hotel.
Day 07 : Marrakech
After breakfast, proceed to continue exploring Marrakech, starting by visiting the beautiful gardens dotting the city. One of the most lovely are the Menara Gardens, which date to the twelfth century and are set among extensive orchards and olive groves. At their center is a rectangular pool with a fabulous view of the Atlas Mountains. From here, continue to Majorelle Garden, originally designed in 1924 by French artist Jacques Majorelle and now owned by famous couture designer Yves Saint Laurent. Marvel at the garden’s exotic plants, such as bamboo, cacti, bougainvillea and palms, and take in the tranquil streams and fish-filled pools peppered throughout. The rest of your day is at leisure, perhaps for last-minute shopping or sightseeing at your own pace. Overnight at hotel.

Our trekking mules will carry your larger bags as well as tents and equipment. Luggage is limited to 12kg per person for the trek and bags must be soft duffle bags or frameless backpacks. You will carry only your own daypack when trekking – for water, camera, jacket, sunscreen, etc.It can be that sometimes the mules take a slightly different track at some points, or go faster than we walk. As you may not see them for long stretches, you should be prepared to carry the things you need with you while walking between stops. We wind our way up past cornfields and woods of juniper and pine to the Tizi ‘n Tacht pass (2000m), where we have views back down to Imlil and the Ait Oussaden valley.
We descend to the Azzadene Valley, passing red clay terraced villages to reach the village of Tizi Oussem (1720m) where we stay in a mountain gîte for the night.Gîtes are accommodation in family houses, or mountain huts, usually in mountain villages and are very, very simple. If you have this expectation in mind we are sure you will be pleasantly surprised. Sleeping arrangements are multi-share. Matresses are provided. You will need to have your own sleeping bag and sleeping sheet, and bath towel. (Bathroom facilities are basic and shared, and hot water is not always available).
You will enjoy delicious homemade dinners of local produce, dining in a traditional manner, often sitting on the floor in a cozy salon.Approx driving time: Marrakech to Imi Oughlad, 1.5 hours.Approx walking time: 6 hours excluding stops (ascent: 850m, descent:300m).
Day 03 : Berber villages – Aremd
A full day walking that takes us through the villages of this grand valley to high passes with stunning views. Walk over the Tizi ‘n Tizikert pass (2930m) where we are rewarded with magnificent views over the Mt Toubkal summit, the Tazaghart Pass and the peak of Taddat (3800m). We then descend to Aremd (1900m) where we stay in another village gite for the night, enjoying another local dinner cooked by our trek team.Approx walking time: 7 hours excluding stops (ascent: 1200m, descent: 1000m).
Day 04 : Mizane Valley – Toubkal base camp
Today we ascend the beautiful Mizane Valley via the pilgrimage hamlet of Sidi Chamharouch, with the shrine of a marabout (please note that only muslims can cross the bridge to visit the shrine). From here our trail continues to zigzag steadily upwards to reach the Mt Toubkal base camp. Time permitting, we can either enjoy a 2 hour optional climb to the summit of Ouanoums (3650m) or simply relax at our base camp for the night.
Tonight we camp in two person tents near the busy Mt Toubkal refuges, which sit at an altitude of 3207m. Foam mattresses are provided for you to sleep on during our camping. If you would like more comfort please bring a light weight self-inflating mattress such as a thermarest. Pillows are not provided so you may also wish to bring an inflatable pillow. You will need to bring a sleeping bag and we recommend a lightweight sleeping sheet as well (for extra warmth or for when hot).Bathroom facilities are “au naturelle”, we will hide our “hole in the ground” toilet with a tent, and ask that all toilet paper is burnt.
You can also make use of the toilets and showers at the base camp refuge, but you will be asked to pay and the camp may be some distance from the refuge.Approx walking time: 5-6 hours excluding stops (ascend: 1300m, descend: 0m)
Day 05 : Mt Toubkal
An early start today for the challenging trek to the summit of Mt. Toubkal, at 4167 metres. After conquering the highest mountain in North Africa, enjoy the magnificent views in all directions and relish the sense of achievement that there is on having reached the summit. We then descend back to our base camp, returning to our camping tents for the evening.Approx walking time: 6-7 Hours excluding stops (ascend: 960m, descend: 960m).
Day 06 : Imlil – Marrakech
A long descent leads us back via Sidi Chamharouch and Aremd to reach Imlil. After a quick lunch we bid farewell to muleteers and transfer back to Marrakech.
We have the early evening to explore this wonderful city – perhaps for some serious bargaining for souvenirs.
Of course, you are also free to wander at your leisure, just make sure to get a map! We spend this evening in a Marrakech hotel.Approx walking time: 4-5 hours excluding stops(descent 1470m).
